As the society looks to the future it struggles to adapt to changing demographics and increasing demands of a new technological age. Enriching the lives of Chicagoans by providing armchair safaris and supplying geographic adventure, romance, and excitement aplenty has been an enduring legacy. But the threads that bind the future to the past will be made of new materials. The rapid exchange of information and ideas brings the global community ever closer, and the impact of geography – political, environmental, and economic – is immediate. Developing new initiatives to frame the mission of the Society in coming years is the challenge faced by the Board and membership alike. And a partnership between education, science, and industry is essential to write the next chapter in a proud history. |
