Bikes, Birds and BioBlitz at Big Marsh

2-6 p.m. – Friend of Big Marsh celebration
At the BioBlitz participants will team up with educators and experts, using the free iNaturalist app to document the species of flora and fauna at Big Marsh.Once an active industrial property, the site was acquired by the Park District in 2011 and opened as a new public park in 2016. The vision of Big Marsh is to provide a new type of recreation in Chicago that marries habitat restoration with public use. Roughly 45 acres are developed for eco-recreation opportunities including hiking, adventure courses, and off-road biking.Following the Bioblitz,
Friends of Big Marsh will host a celebration of biking and birding, complete with bike workshops/demos, more bird walks, and food from 2-6 p.m.Big Marsh is the Park District’s 278-acre property on the southeast side of Chicago in the area commonly known as the Calumet Area Reserve.
