Join The Geographic Society of Chicago, Chicago Park District, the Wetlands Initiative, and many other community science organizations for a day of fun and nature exploration at Big Marsh Park, one of Chicago’s largest outdoor spaces! Big Marsh Park features walking, running and biking trails that attract outdoor recreation enthusiasts of all skill levels. It is also home to a wide variety of wildlife including amphibians, reptiles, insects, mammals, and birds.
Join us at the Ford Calumet Environmental Center, a gateway to the Calumet Region.
10-10:45 a.m. Mapping the Calumet Region: Presentation from Mark Bouman on the work of Alfred Meyer.
11-11:45 a.m. Meet scientists and organizations from across the Calumet region, meet live animals, and participate in arts and science-based activities.
Noon-1 p.m. Break out into BioBlitz groups based on common interests. Leaders will guide groups across the park to record nature observations!
1-2 p.m. Return to base camp for food, music, and conversation.
