Zonia Baber: “That the Public May Be Brought to Understand the Importance of Geography”
Arizona “Zonia” Baber was the founder of the Geographic Society of Chicago. She was a pioneer in teaching and promoting geography and geology. She revolutionized methods of teaching, believing that students needed to be in the field. Zonia also was a feminist and activist regarding social issues of her time.
As a member of the Society of Woman Geographers, she shared her knowledge about the world. She was a fascinating woman, who traveled the world, but always returned to Chicago. In our final webinar for the Women in Geography series learn about our founder: Zonia Baber.
